Shorts^[1] is a compilation of five short films directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Vasan Bala, Anubhuti Kashyap (Anurag Kashyap's sister^[2]), Shlok Sharma and Gitanjali Rao.^[3] The five short films titled Sujata, Mehfuz, Audacity, Epilogue, and Shor were released on 12 July 2013.^[4][5]

The Gangs of Wasseypur trio – Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi and Richa Chadda- teamed up again for the anothology co-produced by Guneet Monga and Anurag Kashyap,^[6] also featuring newcomers Murari Kumar, Arjun Srivasava, Satya Anand, Vineet Kumar Singh, Preeti Singh and Ratnabali.^{[7][8][9][10][11]}

Sujata is a riveting tale of a young girl, who is struggling to come out of the clutches of her tormenting cousin brother. At a very young age, she is forced to live with her cousin and his family. Herein, begins a life of incessant harassment by her cousin brother. Even as an adult she lives in the shadow of fear. For years, she changes addresses and identities in the hope of finding freedom; but each time he hunts her down. Neither the police, nor the NGOs are able to help her. Pushed to a corner, she decides to take the extreme step.

In an ambiguous space and time. The city has turned mad, as violence has taken its toll. But, far away in the sounds of silence at the border of the town, a man takes care of all the death around. Starring: Richa Chaddha and Arjun ShrivastavA relationship that has already fallen apart and is just about to snap. It describes the love and intimacy, the entangling of two lives and the completely symbiotic nature of a couple.It reflects the possessiveness control isolation, depression and desperation that a relationship can lead to, representing a cycle that needs to be broken to keep sane.

Starring: Vineet Kumar Singh and Ratnabali Bhattacharjee

Lallan and Meena, a couple from Banaras, are consumed by their pursuit to survive in the city of Mumbai. Meena takes up a job in a sewing factory. One day over a phone call, they find each other while embracing death, divorce and redemption. It takes the darkest hour of our life, the fear of death, to regain our consciousness back in to life. To find the beauty that is lost in our relentless angst towards an unyielding life.

Critical Response[edit]

Madhureeta Mukherjee of The Times of India gave it 2.5 stars out of 5 and stated that the film is poignant and touching, with excellent performances.^[12] Rediff gave the film 3 out of 5 stars.^[13]Hindustan Times critic stated that Shorts is breathtaking to borderline bizarre^[14] Mid-Day stated that Shorts is a unique experiment, which deserves an applause.^[15] According to LiveMint critic, 'Shorts is an omnibus of vignettes about urban living.'^[16] Deccan Chronicle rated it 4 out of 5 stars.^[17]

One of the best parts of going to see any Pixar movie is knowing that you'll also get to see an animated short prior to the feature. The latest movie from the studio is no exception. Finding Dory, in theaters June 17, comes with a short called Piper, which is about a little sandpiper bird who is afraid of the water. If you're a Pixar short connoisseur, you might be wondering where to watch Piper — ideally without having to commit to a full-price movie ticket and a theater full of hyped-up children.

Earlier: Unfortunately, Piper isn't yet available for purchase online or through any streaming service, so you'll either have to wait a while or commit to seeing it in theaters. But it might be worth making the trip (and tolerating your fellow youthful viewers), as the short is already being praised for its sweet story and impressive animation. Interestingly, though, Piper wasn't originally intended to be a short. Director Alan Barillaro told The Hollywood Reporter that he initially conceived of the story as part of a technical test while exploring how to develop software that would make computer animation look more like live-action photography.

Piper' s origins are a testament to just how technologically advanced Pixar shorts are becoming. It's been an ongoing development ever since the shorts started to make a resurgence in the early 2000s. Here is a look at some of the most memorable — and impressively technical — Pixar shorts in recent years.

Lava

This musical short, which accompanied 2015's Inside Out, is a love story told through both animation and a song written by director James Ford Murphy.

The Good Dinosaur was preceded by this short, a semi-autobiographical story by director Sanjay Patel about growing up in America as the child of Indian immigrants.

Riley's First Date?

This was a special short on the home video release of Inside Out. It chronicled the first date of the Inside Outcharacter Riley, as well all the emotions related to the event — both on the part of Riley and her parents.

The Blue Umbrella

This 2013 shortutilized advanced techniques such as global Illumination and deep compositing to achieve a photorealistic appearance.

Party Central

This Monsters Universityshort was originally going to be a DVD bonus feature, but it came out so well that Pixar decided to feature it on the big screen ahead of Muppets Most Wanted.

As you can see, Pixar has churned out some truly amazing shorts in the past several years. They are perfect combinations of stunning visuals and charming stories, which is seen again in Piper. So even though you can't watch the new Pixar short on your own at home just yet, you can grab a ticket for Finding Doryto see the little bird Piper in all her animated glory.
